SPAIN

Cities Visited: Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona

Highlights: hanging out with friends in Palma de Mallorca, la Sagrada Familia

I decided that I will definitely come back at some point to explore more of the country. Spain is a beautiful country - the landscapes and architecture. The people are extremely laid-back. I love the Spanish language and the food is tasty.

I have visited small towns like Valldemossa and a large city like Barcelona - even though it was only for a couple hours. The architecture and energy of a large city is always fun, but the quaintness of villages tucked into hillsides is so nice and peaceful. I hope that my next trip to Spain will include both, and hopefully a sunny beach (both times I visited it rained unfortunately).

PALMA de MALLORCA

Highlights: hanging out with friends that live in Palma

We started off with a delayed flight. After 2 hours of waiting, we were on our way to Palmaaaa baby! We arrived on the island to a rainbow, dropped our stuff off at my friend's apartment, grabbed a coffee, and headed to Catedral-Basilica Santa Maria de Mallorca. The cathedral was gorgeous! It may have been the tallest space I have ever stood inside. It had stained-glass windows that were vibrant and casted colored shadows throughout the space.

The rest of our time was spent hanging out, enjoying good food and drinks around the island. Patatas bravas, seafood paella, and a strawberry ice cream were among my favorite foods.

One of my friends plays for Palma's professional basketball team. We got to attend the game which was really neat, but unfortunately he is hurt and didn't play.

Our time in Palma was so relaxing, not running around trying to see a ton of buildings and visit museums. The food was great, the scenery was beautiful , and most of all the company was wonderful. I also forgot how much I loved snuggling up with a blanket on a couch (I don't think I had been on a comfy couch since I left the U.S.).

Highlights: hanging out with friends in Palma de Mallorca, Sagrada Familia

When my friend and I found ourselves with a seven hour layover in Barcelona, we immediately wanted to leave the airport if at all possible. Even though it was pouring rain when we landed in Spain, we were determined to see Sagrada Familia.

We locked up our luggage, called a taxi, and 30 minutes later... WOW! We were dropped on the corner with Sagrada Familia towering above. I was not expecting the cathedral to be where it is. It seems like you could be just walking around Barcelona, which does not have buildings of substantial height. Then randomly in the middle of it all, sits Antoni Gaudi's vision.

I got a little taste of Barcelona, and man I want to go back soon! I know there is so much to see.

When catching my next flight, I had shuffled some of my belongings and had a nice outfit to travel in... minus the poncho at least.

See you soon Spain.
